OK Math Tutoring Corps
WHY CONSIDER OKLAHOMA MATH TUTORING CORPS?
Mathematics skills build over time, and algebra readiness is critical for success in higher-level mathematics and for future careers. In recognition of the importance of algebra readiness, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is investing in a Math Tutoring Corps to support 7th-9th grade students in gaining math skills and concepts they may have missed due to learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This effort will begin in winter 2021 and continue through summer 2024.
OSDE recruits and hires up to 500 educators and college students to provide virtual tutoring services outside of school hours for up to 1,500 7th-9th graders. Each tutor will have a group of no more than four students and will meet virtually for 50-minute sessions, three times per week. In each session, tutors will provide on-grade-level mathematics support to reinforce mathematical concepts and help students better understand math processes they are currently learning in class while also preparing them for higher-level mathematics.
Participants have the option to select one or both of the following sessions:
- September 19 - November 18, 2022 (9 week program)
- January 8 - April 15, 2023 (12 week program breaking for Oklahoma spring break)
Registration for the 22-23 school year is now open. All Oklahoma school students currently in the 7th, 8th and 9th grades are eligible to register. Complete this form to register your student. Registration deadline is 5:00 P.M., Thursday, September 1, 2022.
